Campus Manitoba Highlights from 2015

2015 was one of Campus Manitoba’s busiest years since we launched eCampus Manitoba in 2014. We worked on new projects, expanded our team, took on new responsibilities in transfer credit, and launched two new websites. Our Virtual Help Desk supported hundreds of students through eCampus Manitoba, and we continued working with our partners to help students and increase access to online courses.

Here are a few highlights from 2015:

  • The Province of Manitoba announced new services from Campus Manitoba that will help post-secondary students transfer credits and be recognized for prior learning. The Student Advocate has been available since September and the transfer credit database will be online in 2016.
  • In September, we also announced a new partnership with BCcampus to introduce open textbooks to Manitoba faculty and students. We launched the Manitoba Open Textbook Initiative website in October to support faculty reviews and adoptions of open textbooks. Some reviews have been published and more are in process.
  • The Province of Manitoba announced the new post-secondary strategy in July, which includes a commitment to a “pathways approach” in Manitoba and an “integrated, collaborative” post-secondary system. Campus Manitoba has been active in these areas with numerous projects, including eCampus Manitoba and the new transfer credit database.
  • 2015 marked the first full year of activity on eCampus Manitoba. We connected hundreds of students to online courses and provided them support through our Virtual Help Desk.
  • Our final project of the year was Set Your Course, a new resource to help prospective students make decisions about studying in Manitoba while browsing an extensive career catalogue. The website launched in December and was announced in January.
  • We welcomed two new staff members to our growing team. Sarah Nantais joined our Virtual Help Desk in August and Kat Fehr has been a Special Projects Coordinator since September.
  • Dave Neale, Executive Director of Campus Manitoba, continues to be active in the national conversation at PCCAT, the Pan-Canadian Consortium on Admissions & Transfer. PCCAT launched the Transfer & Transcript Guide for Canadian universities and colleges in December.

We look forward to an exciting year in 2016! Make sure to follow us on social media, including Twitter and Facebook, for regular posts about what’s going on at Campus Manitoba. You can also contact us at vhd@campusmanitoba.ca for more information about any of our services or projects.
